A Relationship Therapist Explains That Your Past Informs How You Behave At Work.
When you go to work each day, no matter how hard you try, you cannot leave part of who you are, at home. Indeed, every time you enter the office or boardroom, you do so with ‘more of you’ than you may realise. You ‘bring’ all the different parts of who you are, even the bits that you think you can hide, into the office environment. This is because usually, we don’t realise that what we present to the world — is far more than we anticipate.
When you enter a room, you bring all your past experiences with you: your childhood experiences, your relationship experiences, your family experiences, your insecurities, your fear around money, your habits, your attitudes, your anxieties, your prejudices, and so on. And people will intuit or pick up on ALL of who you are — whether you’re aware of it or not.
This is because our personality traits are neatly packaged into what is known as your body language. Some refer to this as “emitting a certain vibe”. However, how you come across may not always be constructive and your body language could be holding you back from being promoted or achieving your goals.
