A Relationship Points Out That Emotional Abuse Is Carried Out — Not Just By Men But By Women Too.
Although I wrote this article a few years ago, I thought to repost it as the pandemic has highlighted domestic abuse and my article points out that it’s not just just men who abuse:If any of you in the UK listened to the Archers drama on BBC’s Radio 4, you may have followed the unfolding drama between the married couple Rob and Helen.
The Archers started in 1951 and its about families and the everyday events in the lives of farmers in Britain. Every now and again it also deals with serious emotional subjects and in this case — it’s about emotional abuse and possibly even violence.
For months we have been hearing Rob manipulating Helen into believing that he has her very best interests at heart, yet he has isolated her from all her friends and family, putting them down, controlling them and her, and so on. All the while seeming absolutely attentive and caring. Yet there is an underlying threat.
This radio drama is a very good example of how emotional abuse can develop over time and how it can become a serious problem if not understood.
