Have You Developed A Boredom Radar?
Where I live in London, there is a huge diversity of people which means that if we sit in our local pubs, we can land up chatting to people from all ‘walks of life’. And people from these ‘walks of life’ can seem intelligent and sometimes very interesting too. If we return to the same pub, we might land up talking to them again. And talking to all sorts of people can broaden one’s outlook. We can all learn from one another but without feeling obliged to become lifelong friends.
However, sometimes when our guards come down, a certain symbolic mist can descend around us and we can find ourselves crossing the line with certain people. We might behave in ways that might shock us once the mist clears and we realise what we’ve done. This can be embarrassing. It may involve apologising due to the error of our ways or we may have to do some damage limitation.
Also, whilst the mist circles us, all sorts of justifications can arise but once the mist dissipates, these reasons can appear silly or even foolish.
There is of course a lesson in this — that we are the average of the people we surround ourselves with.
