Have You Learned Your Wisdom From People Older Than You?

Often the best way to gain exceptional wisdom is by spending time with people that are older than you.

I was reminded of this sagacity just the other day, forgetting of course, that many of my friends are indeed older than me.

Why?

Because I find their stories of travel and life, absolutely fascinating — and through them I have gleaned many captivating insights.

Just the other day at a lunch party, I sat next to someone whose father had been a British double agent in Hamburg during WW2. His stories were absolutely jaw dropping. On the other side of me, sat my dear friend, Alina, who had escaped not 1 — but 3 concentration camps. She often relates her adventures with great humour, but also with an astounding memory of events that seem to have taken place just the other day, yet we all know it was ages ago — yet they seem relevant even today.

I suppose this is why I get frustrated and annoyed when the elderly are so easily dismissed and thought of as a drain on society.

We somehow forget that a few wrinkles can actually represent a vast data base of knowledge and experience — which we can all learn from.

Instead, many are left — forgotten in old age homes.

And yet somehow, we neglect to realise that one day we too may be left dismissed and abandoned.

It may therefore be a good idea that we begin to rethink our attitude to old age soon, before it is us, sat left and forgotten — don’t you think?
