The Joy Trick.

The Joy Trick.

A particular observation I’ve made over the last few years, is that I’ve become happier. It’s because I’ve learnt a simple trick. I’ve learnt to take in a breath and then to use joy, even just the thought of it, to improve my mood. It opens up my heart and immediately my thoughts turn positive and any concerns or negative issues, are put aside. Sometimes I just smile at nothing. Sometimes, I think of a nice memory and my mood immediately changes. So now I use it the minute if I start feeling stressed, for whatever reason.

And believe me, I have had moments over the last few years that have taken my stress levels to another level entirely. But I’ve learnt that being in a better mood can shift how we deal with things or how we approach things.

It can’t always remove things we have to deal with, it may not change situations entirely, but it can shift how we approach things when we are in a better mood.

The more I’ve done this, throughout the day, and the more this habit has grown — and now I feel happier even when I wake up in the mornings.

It’s been a subtle change but worth it nevertheless. And little things that used to niggle me, seem to have been removed from my life. Strange that. 
